A mermaid with a heart filled to overflowing, she makes me think and feel in ways few ever have. First introduced to her poetry, its raw lyrical appeal, then her brightly coloured paintings, which often included pieces of language and shimmering images, I was immediately drawn to her creative relationship with the world. Her collages of images and textures in juxtaposition are little reflections of the world; the pieces of it that work and the parts that don't seem to fit together. But they are the stuff of the world, and she makes them make sense, or at least, makes the viewer want to experience the contrasts.

Further, her inventiveness is perfectly balanced with her fine analytical mind and her knowledge of subjects such as film and art history. I am drawn to her need to learn and to her fiery imagination. She is a traveler at heart and her eyes crave the new and beautiful, as well as the sorrowful and historic. She is constantly influenced by her surroundings and, in return, she transforms wherever she is. Her short films display this wonder with the world while at the same time embracing the grittiness and disappointment that is everywhere.

She is a woman of unlimited possibilities and she has profoundly influenced my view of the world. She is candy and feathers. She is desert and cedars.
